Our Olive Oil History:

A Heritage of Dedication

Filippo Berio set the standards high, promising to craft the very best olive oils and products.
We’re honored to keep his promise alive.

150 Years of Intense Passion

Creating the best-tasting olive oil is at the heart of everything we do and that’s the way it’s always been.

1867 Lucca, Italy

1867 Lucca, Italy

Inspired by the endless olive groves in his hometown, Filippo Berio decides to dedicate his life to crafting the most exquisite olive oil, one made only with the finest olives, one that’s worthy of the most demanding cooks in the world—his neighbors.

After 15 years of experience, Filippo Berio creates his own olive oil brand. Each bottle of 100% olive oil bears his signature—a sign of meticulous craftsmanship and a guarantee that the oil found in every bottle lives up to his very high standards.

Late 1800s

Thanks to the exceptional quality of his olive oils, Filippo Berio is recognized at the International Quality Awards at the Universal Exposition in Lyon and Paris, and at Chicago’s Colombian Fair.

Later on, Filippo Berio forms a partnership with Giovanni Silvestrini, a businessman, who not only helps him build the business but maintain its high standards.

At the age of 64, Filippo Berio passes away; his daughter, Albertina, moves into her father’s role.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the olive oil brand that started out as a family-owned business, becomes the most exported Italian brand, obtaining numerous awards for its excellent taste.

Teaming up with other Lucca growers and producers, Albertina and Giovanni Silvestrini form a new company, the Society for Oils and Wines of the Province of Lucca, or SALOV for short. SALOV is still around today, in fact, it markets our Filippo Berio brand, allowing us to expand our reach while maintaining our roots.

1940 - 1970

After the Second World War, production starts again and Filippo Berio continues to grow, gaining more and more success.

The brand establishes subsidiaries in New Jersey and, in 1999, the UK.

Filippo Berio moves to Massarosa, not far from Lucca.

SALOV opens two new subsidiaries in Singapore and Moscow.

Filippo Berio expands its product range in the US, with the launch of pestos, balsamic glazes, and a range of vinegars, that include balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, and white wine vinegar.

2017 - 2018

The brand celebrates 150 years of history; commercial offices in Brazil open.

2019 - Present

Extra Virgin Olive Oil continues to be exported to over 75 countries and is still designed for those who want only the best in their kitchens, just like Filippo Berio’s neighbors.
